Neiterman examines the changes at the School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania during the 1920s and 1930s which changed the curriculum of the school into a more research orientated one. She looks at the role which Alfred Newton Richards played in the transformation and the importance of the Survey of Medical Affairs which Richards and T. Grier Miller, prepared for the University in 1931.
